Community ILI activity was similar to the previous week. ILI consultations at HealthStat practices have plateaued, remaining well below the peak
observed in mid-June and below the historical rate for this time of year.
ILI: Two cases each of parainfluenza virus 3 and metapneumovirus were identified at sentinel practices among 15 patients tested. One case each of
adenovirus and rhinovirus/enterovirus were detected. No influenza virus has been detected at sentinel practices since the week ending 31 July.
SARI: Rhinovirus was the most commonly detected virus through SARI surveillance (15/39; 38%), followed closely by Metapneumovirus (12/23;
52%). Enterovirus was identified in 7/11 (64%), SARS-CoV-2 was identified in 6/64 (9%), parainfluenza virus 3 in 6/39 (15%), RSV in 2/55 (4%) and
adenovirus in 2/39 (5%). Influenza A or B was not detected in any of the 64 patients tested.
There have been 88 positive Influenza A H3N2 isolates that have had antigenic typing performed on them using the southern hemisphere antisera,
results indicate a match between the vaccine strain and circulating virus. There have also been 2 positive Influenza A H1N1 isolates that have had
antigenic typing performed on them using southern hemisphere antisera, results indicate a match between vaccine strain and the viruses circulating.
There have not been any influenza B isolates to perform antigenic typing on thus far.
